The SwRI Chemical Defense Section is the experienced partner to help develop countermeasures for chemical or biologic defense. Our staff has over 12 years of experience developing medical countermeasures and navigating the animal rule.

The SwRI Chemical & Biodefense Section:

  • Understands the challenges of developing the therapeutic supply, formulation, and route of delivery for the target product profile
  • Understands through hard experience the different options and tradeoffs that project teams face developing Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) medical countermeasures
  • Leverages direct experience developing countermeasures for nerve agents, chlorine, cyanide and hydrogen sulfide, radiation, viral, and bacterial threats
  • Has experience working with private companies and agencies that fund this type of development – Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), MCS
  • Has a strong history of collaborations with Department of Defense (DoD) laboratories and investigators

The SwRI Chemical & Biodefense Section can help clients:

  • Establish a target product profile
  • Create the label indicating use for your countermeasure
  • Select the animal model to support your label
  • Prepare designs for your Food and Drug Administration (FDA) meeting package, as you prepare for a pre- investigational new drug (IND) meeting
  • Provide, develop, test, and supply your clinical product, using our pharmaceutical development services
  • File your IND
  • Collaborate with you to build your team and write proposals for funding
